Training Programmes

Training news & events
In May, AMT ran two taster training workshops in Hampshire. One half day session on “Finding and bidding for project funding successfully” and the second a full day on “Basic Employment Law“. Both events, at the Old Goods Shed in Alresford, were very popular so we’ve added more sessions and have more in the pipeline too.

  • “Project Management Overview”, Cornwall on Friday 17 September
  • “Managing and Motivating Volunteers”, Rutland on Wednesday 22 September
  • “Finding and Bidding for Project Funding Successfully” session in Daventry on Wednesday 27 October
  • Taster session on Chairmanship Skills in Berkshire, January 2011 (date TBC)

For more details of any of these events, contact Liz at academy@towns.org.uk

Tailoring your own training programme
Partnership and town council members bring with them great experience and skills: but as organisations develop, new skills are required and both volunteers and professional staff need training to help build on existing success. Drawing on research and over a decade of experience, Action for Market Towns has designed a diagnostic and training programme as part of its Big Lottery-funded Towns Alive Programme – the Market Towns Academy.

If you are working to regenerate a small town, you can diagnose the training needs of your organisation online using the Market Towns Academy’s Sustainability Toolkit and then plan a programme of accredited training.

Choose your training programme
The Market Towns Academy has developed 36 training modules, which can be adapted and assembled to provide you with a training programme relevant to your needs. We will let you know of existing courses or even devise a subsidised a programme of courses adapted to meet the needs of a cluster of ten or more community partnerships or town councils in your local area. Please see our downloadable Market Towns Academy brochure.

Study live or online
We can deliver group training programmes at a time and place to suit your organisation. We can tailor programmes for clusters of towns to meet the needs of funders, including local authorities and regional development agencies.

Alternatively, if you prefer to learn from the comfort of your own home, then our online training courses will suit you down to the ground.

We’re accredited
The Market Towns Academy is a National Open College Network (NOCN) accredited training centre. We can offer you the opportunity to complete National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) including ‘Bid Writing’ and ‘Managing Voluntary Partnerships’ – and you can get financial support to take these courses from many funding organisations.

Outcomes matter
The Market Towns Academy is all about helping secure the future sustainability of town partnerships and councils through effective forward planning and organisational development.

To make sure that happens, we monitor the outcomes of our training programmes and track your progress – your success is our success.
