Promoting vibrant and viable small towns

Training Programmes

Your own tailormade training programme

Partnership and town council members bring valuable experience and skills but as organisations grow, new skills are needed and both volunteers and professional staff can benefit from training to build on their successes.

Drawing on research and over a decade of experience, Action for Market Towns has designed as part of its Big Lottery-funded Towns Alive programme a diagnostic tool and training programme: The Market Towns Academy.

If you are working to regenerate a small town, diagnose the training needs of your organisation online with the Market Towns Academy’s Sustainability Toolkit and then plan a programme of accredited training.

Choose your training programme

The Market Towns Academy has developed 36 training modules, which we can adapt to provide you with a training programme that meets your needs.

Let us tell you about our current courses or put together a subsidised programme of courses to meet the needs of a cluster of ten or more community partnerships or town councils in your local area.

Study live or online

We can

  • deliver group training programmes at a time and place to suit your organisation
  • tailor programmes for clusters of towns to meet the needs of funders, including local authorities and regional development agencies
  • offer online training courses so you can learn in the comfort of your own home

Get qualified

The Market Towns Academy is a National Open College Network (NOCN) accredited training centre. We offer you the opportunity to complete National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) including ‘Bid Writing’ and ‘Managing Voluntary Partnerships’.  You can get financial support to take these courses from many funding organisations.

Track your success

The Market Towns Academy is all about making town partnerships and councils sustainable through effective forward planning and organisational development.

To make sure this happens, we monitor the outcomes of our training programmes and track your progress – your success is our success.
