July 2009 – CLG Consultation on a new Planning Policy Statement 4: Planning for Prosperous Communities
The Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) is currently consulting on a new Planning Policy Statement 4: Planning for Prosperous Communities. Planning Policy Statements (PPS) set out the Government’s national policies on different aspects of planning in England. This particular PPS sets out the Government’s comprehensive policy framework for planning for sustainable economic growth in urban and rural areas including town centres, providing an integrated framework for all types of economic development.

Launch of new policy forum, Small Towns for Tomorrow – 8 July 2010 – The Government’s ‘Big Society’ vision could capture the energy and expertise of volunteers in England’s 1600 small towns, home to 11 million people, according to Ray Pahl, Professor Emeritus at the University of Kent and Chairman of a new policy forum, Small Towns for Tomorrow.
The forum, which will devise and promote new ideas for the future vitality and viability of small towns, was launched at The British Academy on Thursday 8 July. Small Towns for Tomorrow is independent of, but supported by, Action for Market Towns.
