  • Building Local Loyalty {opens pdf} – by Chris Wade, Director of My Card Ltd & CEO of Action for Market Towns

Melton Mowbray Town CentreWith the current government and media focusing on the health and long term future of traditional High Streets and Town Centres, Action for Market Towns decided to put together the ‘Town Centre Solutions’ workshop.

This event offered a unique opportunity for those who work in and on behalf of town centres to learn about an innovative set of solutions, services and ideas which help deliver economic vibrancy.

It also builds on AMT’s recently released report, 21st Century Town Centres that is full of practical steps to help towns survive and thrive.

Three specialist organisations delivered the workshop:

amt-i provided an insight into the importance of understanding your town centre from a customer perspective, outlining an array of tools and techniques such as:

  • footfall counts
  • town centre surveys
  • mystery shopping
  • car parking and signage audits

amt-i explored the need to measure the success of town centre performance by taking delegates through the AMT Town Benchmarking system.

Retail specialists, Metamorphosis guided delegates through approaches to engaging with independent retailers to create a ‘town centre vision’ and ensure customers’ experiences are positive.

Loyalty scheme experts, My Card, highlighted how a town centre which has been reviewed, trained and is ready to deliver on an action plan can use loyalty schemes to benefit its overall economic performance.

Delegates left the event with a template to ensure the vibrancy of their town.

To fit into busy schedules this was an intensive half-day workshop starting at 12.45pm

Cost

AMT subsidised the cost of this workshop, with attendance fees set at just £30 for AMT members and £45 for non members.

Venue

The seminar was held at The Cock Hotel, Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire MK11 1AH.
